I guess my argument boils down to semantics and perspective. I don't see the fact that there are more books by white people on the shelves of any bookstore as a "right" that only white people have. The problem there comes from a racist history in publishing. It doesn't stop black people from writing.

The problem I have with the term white privilege is that it's used as excuse for why things are the way they are. Racism is the reason why things are the way they are. People need to stop using white privilege as an excuse to not even try. And I feel like white people use the term as an off hand way to deny racism or their racist tendencies by saying well it's just white privilege and I have no control over that. I feel like the conversation is moving away from racism to something more palatable.

Maybe it's a generational thing but I still believe that if I work hard even if I have to work harder than my counterparts, I'll get to where I want to go.
